BECOME A CITIZEN
YOUR PATH TO GREEK CITIZENSHIP
The Greece Golden Visa program is not a citizenship-by-investment program. However, the Golden Visa holders may be eligible to apply for naturalization in Greece at the end of seven years, if they meet a set of criteria.
Period of Residence in Greece
Golden Visa holders must have legally resided in Greece for at least seven years before they can apply for citizenship. It is critical for Golden Visa holders to physically reside in Greece, as mere possession of the Golden Visa without substantial presence in Greece may not satisfy the residence requirement. Regular renewal of the Golden Visa is necessary, ensuring continuous legal residence status.
Being a tax resident in Greece during this period is also a mandatory condition.
Continuous Residence
Continuous and permanent residence in Greece is required (at least 183 days in a year). The authorities will scrutinize if the individual has genuinely lived in Greece during this period.
Knowledge of Greek Language
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the Greek language. This usually involves passing a language proficiency test.
Integration into Greek Society
Demonstrated integration into Greek society is necessary. This includes familiarity with Greek culture, history, and the political system, typically assessed through an interview process.
No Criminal Record
Applicants must have a clean criminal record both in Greece and in their country of origin.
